Snow Is Gone

Mar 29th, 2009 Posted in Garden News | Comments Off

We were out at the garden yesterday, March 28, and the snow is all gone at the garden.  It looks ready to work in fact, although we will want to watch that frost date.  Here’s a picture for anyone who doesn’t believe me.

Garden Snow Gone

What’s amazing is that on March 20, just a week before, there was still a good six inches over everything.  Things change fast this time of year.

First Look

We went out to the garden on March 28 to see how things were coming along.  To our surprise, all the snow was gone.  We found our bare little plot easily.  Good news — the lavender survived.  Not sure about the thyme or the sage though which looked quite dead.  They could still revive so we’ll give them time.

The other good news was the chives which were up in large clumps that appear to already be food for something as they are nibbled.  I nibbled a piece myself and it was pungently tasty. Fun to be eating something from the garden again.

The cats will be happy too — we have a new clump of catnip coming up in a place I wasn’t expecting.

First Day Of Spring

Mar 20th, 2009 Posted in Garden News | Comments Off

Today is the first day of Spring and we stopped out to the Community Garden to see how our plots are coming along.  Remarkably, the entire garden is still under about half a foot of snow, maybe more in some places.  Here are a couple pictures for your enjoyment.

Still a bit of snow at the Garden.

Garden Dues Are Due June 1

Just a reminder to gardeners that the $25 annual fee for the garden plot is due to Dora by June 1, 2009.  Also, we’re expected to have plants or seeds in the ground by that date.
